Sekhukhune United part ways with Hyballa, ex-coach set for return

Sekhukhune United have confirmed parting ways with head coach Peter Hyballa just a month after taking the reins.

Hyballa arrived at Babina Noko in the off-season and penned a three-year deal with the club, replacing Lehlohonolo Seema who had departed just before the end of the season.

According to FARPost, a “sex scandal” led to his departure. He tendered his resignation when the club decided to conduct an internal investigation about the matter.

The German coach was absent from the sidelines when Sekhukhune United faced Cape Town City FC in their MTN8 Cup clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday. Assistant coach McDonald Makhubedu took charge of the team, which suffered a 1-0 defeat.

When asked about Hyballa’s absence ahead of the match, Makhubedu said the German coach hadn’t received a work permit.

“Yes, he is at the top. I think it's just a matter of work permit, so he is still here,” said Makhubedu on SuperSport.

However, just a few hours after the match, the club released a statement announcing his departure, citing, “pressing matters of a personal nature”.

SEKHUKHUNE UNITED STATEMENT ON HEAD COACH

“Sekhukhune United Football Club wishes to announce the resignation of its Head Coach Peter Hyballa with immediate effect,” the club’s statement stated.

“The Coach has just submitted his letter of resignation, citing pressing matters of a personal nature.

“The Club has accepted his letter, and wishes him well in his future endeavours.

Meanwhile Mcdonald Makhubedu will fill the position of Head Coach in an acting capacity until further notice.”

WHO WILL REPLACE HYBALLA?

It is understood, Seema, who was sacked by Sekhukhune just before the end of the last season, will return to replace Hyballa.

However, in the meantime, the club appointed Makhubedu to take over as an interim head coach.
