Sekhukhune United winger Shaune Mogaila has been released on R20,000 bail following his arrest on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old was arrested after causing a nasty accident at the Andrew Mapheto Road in Tembisa.
The BMW veered off the road and collided head-on with an oncoming Hyundai i10 which was being driven by a woman who was accompanied by her 9-year-old daughter and a neighbour aged 13.
Unfortunately, the mother lost her daughter on the spot. Mogaila, who was allegedly driving the car, fled the accident scene but later presented himself to the Police Station.
Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department spokesperson Thabiso Makgato confirmed Cocaine, Marijuana, and alcohol were among the things confiscated from the BMW that caused the unfortunate incident.
Mogaila released on bail
The players' attorney Octavius Magunda managed to convince the court to release his client on bail as the respective authorities continue with investigations.
“They’re still further investigations that the state has to do, there is still outstanding video footage, post-mortem results, and a medical report,” Magistrate Hlengiwe Malevu ruled on Friday.
The family of the deceased was not fully satisfied with the decision ahead of another mention scheduled for 4 February 2025 to pave the way for full investigations and medical reports.
“I too was expecting more, but prosecutors, magistrates, and judges, they know what to do and take the decision. We will see what happens in the future,” the family's spokesperson stated after the proceedings.
Sekhukhune United confirmed their player was arrested for the offense, but have not communicated any disciplinary action yet.
