Sibisi recalls ‘bitter pill to swallow’ ahead of Nedbank Cup & Soweto derby against Chiefs

Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi is yet to come to terms after a 2-1 loss against Mamelodi Sundowns in the midweek Premier Soccer League outing.

The Sea Robbers started the game at the Orlando Amstel Arena on a high note, pinning their opponents in their half in early exchanges. They had massive chances to find the back of the net, but they failed to capitalise on them, as Ronwen Williams also pulled some top saves.

It eventually ended in favour of the Brazilians, who scored their goals courtesy of the inform Brayan Leon. The Colombian scored a brace to take his goals tally to six from just seven outings across all competitions.

The Soweto giants managed to get their only strike through Patrick Maswanganyi. Still, it was Masandawana who gained ground, since the win reduced the Buccaneers’ lead to just three points, having played a game less.

Sibisi concedes it still hurts

It’s a [bitter] pill to swallow. I don’t know how I can explain the game as it went. We got a couple of chances in the first half. I think before they scored, we should’ve been 2-0 or 3-0 up,” he told Pirates’ media team.

“I think that’s been the story of our season not being able to convert those chances but take nothing away from the performance. I think the boys came out in the second half willing to fight.

“And I think in the first half we were a little bit conservative. I think we started off to an immediate high block,” Sibisi concluded.

On Saturday, Pirates have a chance to put smiles on their supporters faces when they host Casric Stars in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16. The game will be staged at the Orlando Amstel Arena.
