Soweto Derby: Mofokeng convinced ‘it will be difficult’ for Chiefs & Co. ‘to beat Pirates’

Due to their recent form, Orlando Pirates youngster Relebohile Mofokeng is convinced teams will not enjoy playing against the Buccaneers.

The Soweto Giants have been consistent this season across all competitions; they started by winning the MTN8 before advancing to the Caf Champions League group stage and eventually the quarter-final.

Bucs have also been doing well in the Premier Soccer League where they are tipped to end Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance. On Sunday, Pirates made it to the Nedbank Cup’s Round of 16 after beating Richards Bay 3-1 at the King Goodwill Zwelithini

On Saturday, the Jose Riveiro-led team host Kaizer Chiefs in the highly anticipated Soweto Derby at the FNB Stadium. Mofokeng, who was awarded the Man-of-the-Match crown on Saturday, has shared his thoughts ahead of the fixture.

“I think in Durban it’s home, so we have to continue to keep them [fans] happy, so yeah I think we’re doing good,” the 20-year-old South Africa international opened up to the media after the win.

“We play every game as a cup final, so I think us winning will help us going forward. We want it all. We want the league and the cups. I think it’s going to very difficult for other teams to beat us because we’re used to winning.

“We just have to continue so that we keep making the fans happy.”

In the ongoing campaign, Mofokeng has played 25 games across all competitions with a return of eight goals and nine assists.
