Orlando Pirates are set to play Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday, November 16 in the Soweto derby.
The Buccaneers have started the DDC campaign on a high, so far winning eight games, drawing once and losing once as well. As a result, they have managed to collect 25 points, five more than secondplaced Mamelodi Sundowns who had been initially tipped to have a walk in the park.
Amakhosi, who are the defending champions, have not had a good start so far, managing just three wins in 10 games. The Glamour Boys have managed five draws and two losses. As a matter of fact, they have secured a single win in the last eight outings.
Ahead of the Soweto Derby this weekend, coach Roscoe Krieling has explained why Chiefs shouldn't be underrated.
Form does not go into derbies
“We need to get the boys to understand that every week they’ve got to be mentally ready for a fight,” he told SuperSport.
“When you are at the top, everyone wants your scalp… everyone wants to beat you. The boys need to understand that. They must not take it for granted that they are part of the big club. Because failure to do so we will get beaten, that is what happened in Polokwane.
“Form does not go into derbies, they (Chiefs) will be up for it, these boys (Pirates) will be up for it as well. We want to maintain the lead and keep the gap as big as possible. And again, the boys need to play the game, not the occasion,” Krieling concluded.
