‘Mamelodi Sundowns lost the match but won the game! Soweto fans will not understand’

Mamelodi Sundowns laboured to the CAF Champions League semi-final at the expense of Stade Malien of Mali.

The first leg at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium ended 3-0 in favour of the defending Premier Soccer League champions before falling 2-0 in Mali, but advanced thanks to their 3-2 aggregate win.

Masandawana’s win mean they will now face Esperance, Miguel Cardoso’s former team, in the last four. Have a look at what football lovers in Mzansi said, as compiled by Afrik-Foot.

Mamelodi Sundowns fought well

That awkward moment when Miguel Cardoso’s defensive game comes in handy, we are through to the semis – Phanuel Mathonsi

Not too many teams that can stand that heat. Boys fought well, and I was sceptical about Keanu Cupido, but what a performance. We will not face a sterner test – Siyambonga Ngcuzana

That team is dangerous in a heat wave. Next time, they will want us to play in the oven – Mr. Ken Spatto

Sundowns lost the match and won the game, Soweto fans will not understand this – Sir-Ace Mokhothu

Congratulations to Sundowns. The weather was not good, but they managed to defend. We were unlucky with the defence and attack side of play, but held it together until the final minute. Stade Malin was fortunate with the goals, but I feel that we need Victor Hlungwane to review the first goal – Nare Mokobane

Mamelodi Sundowns shouldn’t go to semis with this attitude

Okay now come back and claim your PSL position again and replace the Umbrella FC from the top – Nkocie Phiri

If this is the body language going forward, no CAF Champions League trophy for us – Alan Maake

This just shows how important it is to wrap up the game when playing the first leg at home – Ifelom Centinon Dilena

Much-needed wake-up call. We can’t win them all. Brayan Leon showed he’s built for this. He fought when we needed him. We needed Bathusi Aubass; he would have helped us defend and control the midfield. We’re through, and that’s all that matters. On to the next round – USibusiso Mametja

Please, gents, don’t go to the semi-finals with this attitude; we need this – Praymore Gatsheni Ndlovu
