Stellenbosch FC have landed a tough CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final draw after being drawn with defending champions Zamalek from Egypt.
Stelllies landed the worst possible draw conducted on Thursday in Doha, Qatar, when they were paired with the 14-time Egyptian champions, who have won the Confederation Cup twice, being in 2018-19 and last season.
Steve Barker’s men made history when they advanced to the quarter-final of a continental competition for the first time, having finished second in their group, but now have a massive challenge if they are to progress to the semi-final.
Who will they meet in the semis?
Stellenbosch will welcome Zamalek to South Africa for the first leg on April 2, before heading up the continent for the return leg seven days later. Fixture details for both encounters, including kick-off times and venues, will be confirmed in due course.
The winner of the match between Stellenbosch and Zamalek SC will face the winner of the fourth quarter-final between Tanzanian giants Simba SC, coached by South African Fadlu Davids, and Al Masry of Egypt in the semi-final.
Stellenbosch have been making great strides in the last two seasons but the continental tournament will put them to the test while also stretching their squad which is also looking for another top four finish in the PSL.
