Stellies were too good for Cape Town City as Matsatsantsa silenced TS Galaxy
Fawaaz Basadien scored a goal of the season contender as Stellenbosch FC thrashed Cape Town City 3-0 to claim the bragging rights in the Western Cape derby at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday.
It was a match of beautiful goals as Andre De Jong fired home a long-range shot to beat Darren Keet in the Cape Town goal for 1-0 on the stroke of halftime.
In the 54th minute, Kaizer Chiefs target Basadien produced a moment of brilliance as Steve Barker’s men took a well deserved 2-0 lead.
The defender picked the ball and spotted Keet off his line, launching a shot from his own half which flew over the goalkeeper and even though he got a touch, it was not enough to stop it from rolling into the net.
Who else notched their first league win?
Sanele Barns would complete the rout just after the hour mark when he headed home the third, earning Stellenbosch their first win of the season.
Elsewhere, SuperSport United also won their first match when they beat TS Galaxy 1-0 thanks to Zimbabwean forward Terrence Dzvukamanja’s 63rf minute goal.
Chippa United, meanwhile, played out a 1-1 draw with Sekhukhune United in a match that had the Chilli Boys reduced to 10 men.
Bienvenu Eva Nga put Chippa ahead after just seven minute and they held on until halftime after which Thabang Monare bagged his first goal for Sekhukhune as he equalised in the 49th minute but the visitors saw Sirgio Kammies sent off nine minutes later for a second bookable offence.

Golden Arrows good state hangs in the balance
Meanwhile, Golden Arrows’ 100 per cent record hangs in the balance after their match against Magesi FC was abandoned four minutes from time due to a power outage at the Mpumalanga Stadium.
“Our match against Golden Arrows has been abandoned due to a power outage. We await a decision from the league on whether the match will play the remaining 4 minutes tomorrow or start from scratch,” Magesi announced via a social media post.
Magesi were leading 1-0 by the time of the abandonment following Wonderboy Makhubu’s 79th minute goal.
