Sundowns Mount Comeback to Down Durban City 3-1

It was a night of resilience and tactical brilliance for Mamelodi Sundowns, who clawed their way back from a goal down to triumph over Durban City with a 3-1 win in the Betway Premiership. 

Coach Miguel Cardoso’s brave squad rotation paid dividends, with several key players stepping up when it mattered most. 

Khuliso Mudau made his first start of the season, while Kutlwano Letlhaku, Tashreeq Matthews, and Aubrey Modiba were all recalled to the starting lineup, and their impact was immediate.

Early on, it seemed the Brazilians were in control, but a moment of brilliance from Durban City's Haashim Domingo and Kamatuka saw the visitors take a shock lead in the 12th minute. 

However, the champions responded with the speed and precision we've come to expect. Tashreeq Matthews, on a night where he shone brightly, set up Marcelo Allende, who calmly leveled the score with his first league goal of the season.

Not long after, Matthews went from provider to scorer, putting Sundowns ahead with a composed finish that showcased his class.

Just when it seemed Sundowns would go into the break with a comfortable lead, Durban City was awarded a penalty for a foul on Trevor Mokwana. 

But in a pivotal moment of the match, Sundowns' captain and star goalkeeper Ronwen Williams made a magnificent save, denying Kamatuka and preserving his team's lead.

That save was a turning point. Sundowns dominated the second half, and the team’s hard work was rewarded with a third and final goal.

Kutlwano Letlhaku's perfectly weighted pass found Iqraam Rayners, who struck a decisive, first-time shot that rocketed into the back of the net. 

The goal took the wind out of Durban City's sails, allowing Sundowns to cruise to their fifth victory of the campaign and reaffirm their position at the top of the table.
