CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns are set to travel to Europe for their pre-season preparations, with Austrian powerhouse Red Bull Salzburg confirming a friendly match against the South African champions.
The Tshwane-based club has made European tours a regular part of their pre-season schedule in recent years. This year, their destination is Austria, where they will continue to fine-tune their squad ahead of the new domestic and continental campaigns.

Red Bull Salzburg announced that the friendly encounter is scheduled for July 18. This match follows Sundowns’ recent high-profile friendly against another Red Bull-affiliated team, German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, whom they defeated 3-1 in an exciting clash at Lucas Moripe Stadium in May.
Sundowns hope to have full house
Several Sundowns players, who are currently on international duty at the FIFA World Cup are expected to be given a rest period following their national team commitments.
However, reports suggest they will still join the rest of the squad for the European tour next month.
Sundowns are expected to release their full pre-season travel schedule soon. The club is also anticipated to announce new signings before departing, including Antonio van Wyk, who is set to join from Austrian club SV Ried.
To accommodate the new arrivals, Sundowns will also be parting ways with several players from the current squad.
