Mamelodi Sundowns have booked a spot in the Carling Knockout Cup final after defeating Marumo Gallants 2-0 in the semifinal.

Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Neo Maema were the goalscorers for Sundowns.

The opening ten minutes saw a high-intensity affair, with both teams pressing aggressively to win possession.

Sundowns attempted several forward advances but were unable to penetrate the robust defense of the home team.

As the match progressed, Gallants began to assert their dominance in possession, keeping the Sundowns defense occupied as they sought to find an opportunity for the opening goal.

Williams made several crucial saves to prevent Dan Malesela’s side from scoring, including a long-range effort from Daniel Msendami and a header from Siyabulela Shai.

Gallants effectively managed to neutralize the threats posed by Marcelo Allende and Lucas Ribeiro Costa, resulting in limited distribution opportunities for Peter Shalulile and Iqraam Rayners. It was goalless at halftime.

The hosts attempted to resume their previous momentum upon returning for the second half; however, Sundowns displayed greater organisation.

In the 73rd minute, Masandawana was awarded a penalty after Marvin Sikhosana committed a handball in the penalty area.

Lucas Ribeiro took the responsibility and successfully converted the penalty, granting his team the lead.

Thereafter, Manqoba Mngqithi’s men effectively managed the game, circulating the ball as they sought opportunities to inflict further damage on Gallants.

Sundowns sealed the victory with a late goal in the final minute, as Neo Maema scored from close range past Washington Arubi.
