Sundowns Transfer News: Egyptian heavyweights in advanced talks to sign Brazilian star

Mamelodi Sundowns have been dominating the local footballing scene and the continental one in the last couple of years.

Recently, they were among the 32 teams that played in the concluded FIFA Club World Cup, which was held in the United States and won by English side Chelsea, who beat PSG in the final. Esperance, Wydad Athletic Club, and Al Ahly were the other three teams that represented Africa in the global stage.

CAF Champions League winners Pyramids now want to sign one of the most outstanding Masandawana player, Lucas Ribeiro. According to the former Al Ahly and Egypt international Ahmed Shobier, the negotiations are in an advanced stage.

‘It will be a blockbuster deal'

“Pyramids is in advanced negotiations with South African club Mamelodi Sundowns to sign the Brazilian winger Lucas Ribeiro Costa,” he posted on his X account.

“Honestly, if Pyramids manages to secure the player, it will be a blockbuster deal and a very strong addition to the Pyramids team, especially since they want to sign a new winger to replace Ibrahim Adel.”

The 26-year-old Ribeiro joined the Premier Soccer League champions at the beginning of the 2023/24 season. In his debut campaign, he played 36 matches for the team, scored 16 goals and provided nine assists.

In the 2024/25 edition, the versatile attacker made 51 appearances for the Brazilians across all competitions. He scored 21 goals in the process and created 14 more for Masandawana to help them win the Premier Soccer League, reach the Caf Champions League final, and shine at the FIFA Club World Cup.
