Sundowns vs B. Dortmund: Top five Brazilians to watch in Club World Cup date

Published on by

Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns will be subjected to a stern test on Saturday when they play against Borussia Dortmund in Fifa Club World Cup assignment.

Masandawana started their campaign out of Group A to the knockout phase by beating Ulsan HD by a solitary goal, as the Germany's Bundesliga outfit played to a goalless draw with Fluminense.

A win for the Miguel Cardoso-led team will seal their knockout phase ticket but the European outfit will be aiming at putting up a decent fight and get the vital three points.

Have a look at players who can help Sundowns get maximum points to advance from their pool.

The experienced Bafana Bafana captain made some massive saves in the game against Ulsan HD to ensure his side kept a clean sheet and claimed three points in the process.

Apart from making saves, Williams will have to ensure the backline of Khuliso Mudau, Bongani Zungu, Keanu Cupido, and Grant Kekana keep their shape and clear the dangers.

There were suggestions that the midfielder deserved a Man-of-the-Match Award against Ulsan HD owing to his impressive stats. The 27-year-old made 97 complete passes, creating several scoring opportunities as well.

The South Africa international will be needed to do even better against the BVB, who are desperate for a win. He will have to keep his positional discipline and advance only when it is necessary.

Cardoso swallowed his pride to eventually start the veteran 35-year-old Masandawana skipper. Mshishi didn't disappoint; he was calm on the ball and knew when to release the ball.

Despite his advancing age, Mshishi will be key in Sundowns' final third, especially in giving those through passes to the front three. Zwane knows how to reduce the pressure and make those around him deliver.

Lucas Ribeiro

Prior to the Club World Cup, Ribeiro had played 48 games, scoring 20 goals on top of the 13 goals against his name, as per TransferMrkt. He was a menace in his Club World Cup debut, assisting Iqraam Rayners to get the only goal of the match.

On his day, the 27-year-old is literally unstoppable and will be crucial for Sundowns this weekend. The South American must be desperate to get his name on the score sheet.

In his debut season at Masandawana, Rayners has played 43 games across all competitions with a return of 23 goals – including the one against Ulsan HD, and nine assists.

In his last game, he could have easily bagged a hat-trick owing to his intelligent runs and deadly finishes. It explains why he was rewarded with the Man-of-the-Match Award. From his exploits, it is obvious Rayners has a high chance of leading the line, once again, on Saturday.
