‘Sundowns won’t make same mistake as Pirates against Pyramids’ – Ex-Downs captain

Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Michael Manzini is confident that the Brazilians will not repeat the same mistakes Orlando Pirates made when they faced Pyramids.

Sundowns are set to take on Pyramids in the crucial CAF Champions League final second leg this Sunday at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo.

Pyramids previously eliminated fellow South African side Orlando Pirates in the semifinal, securing a 3-2 victory to reach the final.

Manzini believes that Sundowns' greater experience will be their key advantage, unlike Pirates, who fell short in the semis, failing to wrap up the game when they were ahead at some point.

‘SUNDOWNS HAS A LOT OF EXPERIENCE’

“I think the difference between us and Pirates is that there’s a lot of experience in our team,” Manzini told iDiski Times.

“We have a little more maturity in comparison, and I don’t think we will open ourselves to concede the way Pirates did. The experience will take us through; we will have the patience to wait for the right moments.

“Of course, there will not be too many opportunities created like in their match against Pirates, so it is going to be about recognising the moment when the opportunity is there, and we need to take advantage of those.

“I believe that once we score one, it will open up for more chances of goals. The trophy is coming home.”

In the first leg, the match ended 1-1 with Lucas Ribeiro scoring for Sundowns while Walid El Karti netted the equaliser in the additional time.
