Matsatsantsa are aiming at having an improved season after narrowly missing the Caf Confederation Cup spot

Premier Soccer League side SuperSport United have made their intent clear ahead of the new season by extending the deal of key personnel in the team.

The vital one is the extension of coach Gavin Hunt's deal by two years. The former Kaizer Chiefs tactician joined the Swanky Boys in 2022, after a short deal with Chippa United. It was his second spell at the club he had helped win three consecutive league titles from 2007/08 to 2009/10 seasons.

In the 2022/23 campaign, under his leadership, Matsatsantsa finished third and was part of the teams that played in the Caf Confederation Cup. Even after losing some top players to rival teams ahead of the concluded season, Hunt's team missed the top-four positions by a whisker.

Others who have secured the same two-year extensions are assistant coach Andre Arendse and goalkeepers' trainer Grant Johnson.

Thulani Hlatshwayo

Veteran former Orlando Pirates defender Hlatshwayo will continue manning the club's defense owing to his impressive showings.

Last season, he played a total of 30 matches across all competitions – with 24 coming in the league. So far, the 34-year-old has won the PSL once – during his team with Bidvest Wits, two MTN8 and the Telkom Knockout.

It explains why he has been given a one-year extension despite his age.

Bilal Baloyi, Gape Moralo, and Gamphani Lungu

The aforementioned trio will serve the Swanky Boys for the next two years; the 20-year-old Baloyi was promoted from the reserve team. He went on to play 13 league games for the club and scored a goal in the process.

The 24-year-old midfielder Moralo was one of Hunt's key men at the club. He played 21 league matches and managed to score once. It explains the club's decision to retain his services.

The Zambia international Lungu has been at the club for the last six seasons, playing a total of 135 PSL matches. He has scored 17 goals and nine assists.

Hunt hopes to offer stiff challenge in all domestic assignments in the new season.
