Despite playing with ten men for a significant portion of the match, Mamelodi Sundowns secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Tuesday, maintaining their three-point lead at the top of the Betway Premiership standings.

Sundowns created early chances, with Khuliso Mudau slicing a close-range shot wide in the fourth minute, and Aubrey Modiba's ninth-minute effort being deflected for a corner.

Teboho Mokoena then threatened with a dangerous free-kick in the 18th minute, cleared by AmaZulu, followed by a long-range strike a minute later that forced a good save from Richard Ofori.

AmaZulu came close to scoring in the 26th minute, but a crucial block by Rushine De Reuck kept the score level.

Before halftime, Kobamelo Kodisang made a strong run and delivered a cross, but the AmaZulu defense cleared the danger.

WILLIAMS’ RED CARD IN SECOND HALF

A major turning point occurred in the 65th minute when Sundowns captain Ronwen Williams was sent off for a handball outside his penalty area.

However, even with a numerical disadvantage, Sundowns found a late winner in the 89th minute through Iqraam Rayners, securing all three points.
