The Brazilians have added a new tactician to their setup after Rhulani Mokwena’s exit

Mamelodi Sundowns have added former AmaZulu and Marumo Gallants coach Romain Folz to their technical bench as an assistant.

Folz will bolster Sundowns’ coaching staff that already has Manqoba Mngqithi, Steve Komphela, Wendell Robinson and Kennedy Mweene as the Brazilian move on from the Rhulani Mokwena era.

“Romain joins the 2023/24 PSL champions from FIFA’s High-Performance Department where he worked on the development of football,” Sundowns said through a statement confirming the new appointment on Monday.

At 34, Folz has already at several clubs in Africa

“Folz who holds a UEFA Pro License has previously worked in South Africa and across Africa in Guinea, Botswana, and Ghana. Mamelodi Sundowns players and Technical Team have warmly received Romain into the camp in Austria where they are on a pre-season camp.”

The French coach is just 34-years-old but has already worked at a number of clubs and brings a wealth of experience from the continent.

He has previously been the assistant coach of the Uganda national team as well as Egyptian side Pyramids.

Sundowns strengthening both playing & technical bench

Folz then became the coach of Ashanti Gold in Ghana before taking over Township Rollers of Botswana after which he moved to South Africa and took over Gallants before his stint at AmaZulu.

Sundowns are strengthening both the squad and technical bench and his arrival comes on the same day they announced their third signing, defender Kegan Johannes from Tshwane rivals SuperSport United.
