The drive behind Orlando Pirates’ quadruple ambition revealed

Orlando Pirates are aiming to become the first team in South African history to win all the available domestic competitions.

In the ongoing campaign, the Soweto giants have already won the MTN8 – for the fourth time in a row, and most recently the Carling Knockout. Before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) break, the club did well to also win the unofficial Black Label Cup after beating the Carling All Stars XI 2-0.

The Buccaneers are not yet done; they are the frontrunners in the race for the Premier Soccer League title and the Nedbank Cup as well. While Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs are also chasing glory in the CAF Inter-Club competition, the Sea Robbers are fully focused on local assignments.

Bucs centre-back Tapelo Xoki has now revealed what is pushing his team in their bid to win a treble.

Pirates don’t have anything yet

“We are an ambitious club. Everyone that arrives here and realises that we play every tournament to win it, doesn’t matter which one it is, but we always try our best to compete on all fronts,” he told the media.

“The two trophies this season were won in 2025, in 2026 we don’t have anything yet, and that’s a motivating factor on it’s own.”

Pirates will face Casric Stars in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16, and despite coming into the game as favourites, Xoki thinks otherwise.

“We welcome the fixture. The last fixture we played away, so we really wanted a home fixture to play in front of our supporters,” the centre-back added.

“It’s going to be a tricky fixture, and it’s not going to be a walkover against Casric Stars, a team that is competing for the league title in their respective league,” Xoki concluded.
