Top 5 Kaizer Chiefs players who impressed in preseason

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs ended their pre-season in the Netherlands with a 2-1 defeat to FC Twente on Wednesday night.

The Glamour Boys had started their European tour with a 2-1 loss against Vitesse before falling 4-0 to the top side FC Utrecht in their second game which followed up with another 1-0 defeat versus Nec Nijmegen.

The maiden win for Amakhosi came in their fourth outing when they beat Zwolle by a solitary goal.

Who impressed in the short tour? Have a look at the five top performers:

Brandon Petersen

It seems Petersen has learnt from his initial mistakes that saw him get benched in favour of Bruce Bvuma.

The 30-year-old can't be blamed for the goals he conceded in the Netherlands. He kept his team in the match on numerous occasions and commanded his area well. If he remains consistent, Amakhosi will have no reason to sign another custodian

Aden McCarthy

The versatile 21-year-old left-footed defender has shown maturity against some top sides he has played against. He was composed on the ball and ready for the build-ups.

When fit, Rushwin Dortley is the preferred candidate to start alongside Inacio Miguel at the back, but McCarthy has given Nabi something to think about.

Nkanyiso Shinga

Shinga is among the six players who have been unveiled at the Glamour Boys ahead of the new season. He made three appearances in the Netherlands, completing two and subbed once.

He has already said he can also play in central defense, which is a massive option for Nabi owing to his experience having played against some top teams in Europe.

George Matlou

Prior to the pre-season, Matlou was reportedly not in Nabi's plans for the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League campaign. There were reports that he was on his way out before a U-turn by the technical team.

The 27-year-old has since impressed in pre-season, even reportedly attracting European scouts.

Thulane Mabaso

The 21-year-old was not known by many prior to this pre-season, but needed a couple of minutes to show his massive talent. He was composed on the ball, making right moves and passes.

Despite his age and less expereince, Mabaso has made a strong case which might see him getting regular playtime under Nabi.
