Kaizer Chiefs are determined to re-build their team and make them competitive again in South Africa after their recent struggles.
After winning the Nedbank Cup last season, their first trophy in a decade, Amakhosi have been doing quite well in the Premier Soccer League. They are currently just four points behind Orlando Pirates in the Premier Soccer League.
With the January transfer window open, Afrik-Foot had a look at players who can help the Soweto giants push for the league crown.
Thapelo Maseko

The 22-year-old versatile left winger was excited when Masandawana came for his services at the beginning of the 2023/24 season. He had made a name for himself at SuperSport United despite being a teenager.
However, he has been sidelined at Masandawana where the competition is stiff. Despite his talent, the attacker has been reduced to a mere squad player. Chiefs can make use of the winger especially in the left wing where Glody Lilepo and Pule Mmodi have struggled to deliver consistently.
Mothobi Mvala

Mvala is remembered for his contribution in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations that saw Bafana Bafana finish third despite coming into the tournament as underdogs. However, in the last two seasons, the 31-year-old has struggled to get his fitness.
For instance, last season, he played just 10 games across all competitions, which was 20 less than what he had achieved in the previous campaign. In the ongoing campaign, the emergence of Malibongwe Khoza, coupled with the signing of Keanu Cupido have limited Mvala’s playing time as Grant Kekana and Mosa Lebusa continue to feature as well.
Chiefs lack leadership and a consistent no-nonsense centre-back as the current ones focus on playing football even when the ball should be cleared. His winning mentality might be what Amakhosi need at the back.
Peter Shalulile

Iqraam Rayners has been in good form for the Brazilians in recent seasons, relegating legendary striker Peter Shalulile out of the starting team. The Namibia international has won the PSL Golden Boot on three occasions.
The 32-year-old, who has won six major trophies in Mzansi, has a lot to offer for the next couple of seasons. One might argue that Chiefs have Khanyisa Mayo, Flavio Silva and Etiosa Ighodaro, but do they know the back of the net like Shalulile?
Sphelele Mkhulise

Sometimes, Kaizer Chiefs have been over-relying on young Mduduzi Shabalala to deliver in midfield when things become thick. Gaston Sirino has not been effective as antipated.
Mkhulise might be the man who will help lift the burden off Shabalala’s back if only he gets a chance. It is up to the management to analyse the current situation and take a risk.
Khuliso Mudau

Well, this is a big one! Mudau has refused to extend his deal at Pirates and will be a free agent at the end of the season. He is free to negotiate with the clubs that are interedted for his services.
Just imagine having Mudau in the right-back position with Thabiso Monyane coming in occasionally! But Amakhosi have to be ambitious to convince Sailor to joine them.
