The short January transfer window has officially opened, a massive opportunity for clubs to sign players they feel will improve them.
One of the teams that might fully take advantage of the window are Kaizer Chiefs who have struggled for consistency. However, before they bring new faces, some might be let go by the management.
In this piece, we focus on players who have not delivered as anticipated despite earning hundreds of thousands of Rands. Have a look:
Christian Saile
The bulky 25-year-old Congolese striker joined Amakhosi in 2023 hoping to help revive the club's struggling attacking front. However, he has not been consistent; last season, he managed to get just four goals and three assists in the 34 games played.
In the ongoing edition, he has struggled for game time. Saile has made five appearances in all competitions with no goals. Chiefs can surely let him go for a better option.
Ranga Chivaviro
Chivaviro scored 17 goals in 30 games for Marumo Gallants across all competitions to convince Chiefs to battle for his services. In his debut season, the striker played 23 games but could only afford four goals and an assist.
Well, despite scoring four goals in 11 games across all competitions this season, the striker is just not Amakhosi's quality. His contract expires in January, but the club can get a better player.
Edson Castillo
Castillo started his reign at Kaizer Chiefs in a high, scoring some really important goals earlier. he played 32 games across all competitions and wnt on to deliver five goals and an assist.
In the 24/25 edition, he made five appearances with an assist before a nasty injury that ruled him out until, at least, March. His contract concludes at the end of the season. He will be missed yes, but the team has to rebuild without the 30-year-old.
Brandon Petersen
The goalkeeper started the 2023/24 season as Kaizer Chiefs first-choice goalkeeper before making costly mistakes. He contributed to the firing of Ntseki and his successor Johnson.
Nabi has given him three chances this season, but it seems the 30-year-old is just not the right person for the club. The custodian has seemingly lost his confidence. Chippa United's Stanley Nwabali has been linked to Chiefs and a swap deal might just work
Happy Mashiane
It is not all about quality for the left-back but lack of game time. Right now there is Bradley Cross in that position who is shadowed by Motswana Thatayaone Ditlhokwe who came into the club as a cente-back.
Edmilson Dove and Bongani Sam are nursing injuries but are ahead of Mashiane in the pecking order. At 26, Mashiane should be playing but has now been reduced to a part-time player. His contract expires in June, so he has an option of signing a pre-contract with another club where he will enjoy more chances.
