Will Teboho Mokoena ditch Mamelodi Sundowns for Al Ahly? Agent shares concerning hint

Published on by Willis Sob, updated on

Teboho Mokoena has been ticking the right boxes for Mamelodi Sundowns since his move from SuperSport United at the beginning of the 2021/22 season.

The now 27-year-old has been a rock for Masandawana who have dominated domestic football for the last seven seasons, winning the Premier Soccer League title with convincing results and margins.

Mokoena was exceptional in the 2022/23 season for Downs, and at the end of the campaign, he was crowned the PSL's Player of the Year Award. In the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, he dominated the midfield effectively as Bafana Bafana went on to finish in podium positions for the first time in 24 years.

It explains why the likes of Al Ahly, Bournemouth and Qatari side Al Wakrah have been linked to the bulky midfielder.

Will Mokoena join Tau's Al Ahly? Agent makes a massive hint

The Caf Champions League defending Champions Al Ahly have been heavily linked with a move for the Sundowns man. The Red Devils are home to South Africa international Percy Tau who has been a key player for them.

“In recent months, there have been many speculations that Mokoena will join Al Ahly, but I cannot confirm nor deny this,” his agent Glyn Binkin told MBC.

“There are no negotiations between Al Ahly and Mokoena, and I am not aware of Al Ahly negotiating with Sundowns regarding the player. Everything being said about offers made to Mokoena is just rumors. As far as I know, there are no offers from Al Ahly, and the player still has two seasons remaining on his contract with Sundowns.

“There are no negotiations with Qatari club Al Wakrah. This is not true!”

It is interesting to see whether Downs will intensify their effort to tie Mokoena to a new deal before his existing one expires in the summer of 2026.

Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was tied to a new deal recently after his commanding display for the club and Bafana Bafana.
