‘He is definitely staying’ – Underutilised Kaizer Chiefs star impresses Da Cruz

Dillan Solomons is set to extend his stay at Kaizer Chiefs after receiving the backing of the club’s new head coach, Fernando da Cruz.

The defender’s future had been uncertain, with his contract expiring last month.

Solomons has been actively involved in the team’s pre-season preparations, a strong signal that he is part of the club’s plans for the upcoming season. His presence in training photos and videos shared on social media has all but confirmed his continuation with the Soweto giants.

What is the length of Solomons’ new deal?

“I hear he is definitely staying,” a source confirmed to KickOff. “It’s a one-year extension, with an option for a further year.”

The 29-year-old will provide valuable depth at right-back, competing for a spot with Thabiso Monyane and Reeve Frosler. Youngster Sifiso Timba, who spent last season on loan at Gomora United, is also in contention. Solomons is known for his pace and attacking prowess down the right flank.

Last season, the former Moroka Swallows player featured in nine Betway Premiership matches and made nine appearances in the CAF Confederation Cup. He also played the full 120 minutes in the Carling Knockout defeat to Stellenbosch FC.

His attacking contributions were particularly notable during the club’s continental campaign. He scored a memorable solo goal in a 2-1 away loss to Al Masry last November. In the following match against Zamalek, his late cross led to a crucial own goal, securing a vital point for Amakhosi.

Solomons’ renewal comes amid a busy transfer window for Chiefs, who have already confirmed the departures of Aden McCarthy, Happy Mashiane, George Matlou, Tashreeq Morris, and Gaston Sirino.

The club has bolstered its squad with the signings of Thabo Moloisane and Renaldo Leaner, while also making Khanyisa Mayo’s loan deal permanent.
