Venue for Bafana vs Rwanda clash decided?

The MTN8 final at Mbombela Stadium wasn’t just a trophy decider; it was a critical test for the venue's future.

According to SABC Sport, stadium is being considered to host a massive Bafana Bafana match, the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Rwanda next month.

This fixture could be a celebration of South Africa's long-awaited return to the World Cup stage. While the prospect is exciting, the Nelspruit facility has had its issues. Previous events have been plagued by chaotic traffic and delayed starts.

A successful, well-managed MTN8 final could be the key to securing the Bafana Bafana game. SAFA President Danny Jordaan confirmed that the final decision rests with key figures in the national team, as coach Hugo Broos and captain Ronwen Williams will both be consulted before a final venue is chosen.

WILLIAMS AND BROOS TO DECIDE VENUE OF NEXT GAME

“The second match, of course, is in our hands and we are busy negotiating with the cities, and we will make the announcement soon because that is the final match,” said Jordaan.

“And I just want to say Hugo Broos and Ronwen Williams gave excellent leadership to the team, and maybe as a credit to the contribution of both of them, we'll have to consult them on where they would want to have this final match.

“But they have been incredible, and we look forward to the last two games.”

He added, “The next two games, of course, are the final two games in the series of matches for qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and the first match against Zimbabwe is not in our hands.”

“Zimbabwe will have to decide where they want to play the game. We suggested certain cities, but it's up to them to decide where they want to play.”
