WATCH: Furious Sundowns fan splashes water on Sporting Director amid ‘Pitso’ chants

Mamelodi Sundowns Sporting Director Flemming Berg was on the receiving end of some bad treatment from a section of fans on Friday.

Sundowns played out a 2-2 draw against Sudanese giants Al-Hilal in the CAF Champions League at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Friday night, missing an opportunity to open a three-point lead at the top of their group, that also has Rulani Mokwena’s MC Alger and St Eloi Lupopo.

The game had few chances but Sundowns paid the price for some poor defending, allowing Al-Hilal’s Abdelrazig Omer to score twice, first in the 15th minute and then an equaliser after 71 minutes.

Arthur Sales had leveled for Sundowns in the 23rd minute before Teboho Mokoena scored a cracking goal after 64 minutes but a mistake from Grant Kekana allowed Omer to seal his brace.

After the game, Berg and head coach Miguel Cardoso were booed by fans with chants of “Pitso, Pitso, Pitso” in the stands as they called for the return of ex-tactician Pitso Mosimane, who has been rumoured to be in talks with the club.

The situation escalated beyond the stands as fans accosted Berg while he was exiting and splashed water on him, as they accused him of not running the club well.

From a clip posted online, Berg can be seen being drenched by a supporter who then hurls insults at him as the Swede retreats.

According to Times Lives, that volatile situation forced security personnel to intervene with Berg and Cardoso reported to have been whisked away through the back door.

Sundowns fans are unhappy with Berg’s recruitment policy as they accuse him of spending so much money on players who do not fit the profile of the club while Cardoso has been blamed for implementing a ‘boring’ style of football.

However, while fans appear not to be happy with Berg, they might have to do with him for sometime as he signed a new two-year contract before the start of this season.
