‘We don’t know who is the coach’ – Ex-Chiefs defender slams handling of Nabi’s exit

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela has joined those who feel coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef have lost the respect of players at the club.

Kaze and Ben Youssef have been in charge at Chiefs since it was announced that their boss Nasreddine Nabi was in talks to leave the club but they have not performed so well with one win in five matches across all competitions.

Besides, they also appear to have lost the dressing room given the act of defiance witnessed from goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, who refused to come off during their Carling Knockout loss to Stellenbosch FC on Sunday, while midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa nearly did the same before changing his mind.

Masilela, who played for Chiefs from 2012-2018, feels Kaze and Ben Youssef lack authority on the players as was the case when Nabi was in charge, something that needs to change quickly.

“The leadership of the coaching staff, how is their relationship with the players right now because we all know when Nabi was here, he was the coach,” Masilela said on SoccerBeat.

“Since the two guys took over, we do not even know who is the head coach, are they co-coaches? At some point, I saw [Thabo] Cele having a go at coach [Cedric] Kaze and you could see that there are a bit of words being exchanged.

“I do not know if the Kaizer Chiefs staff picked up that moment so I do not know when you see these small things, you are seeing a team that is not united and going forward it becomes an issue,” he further said.

Kaze promised to deal with the Ntwari issue internally but it was a bad image of the situation at the club and it remains to be seen how Chiefs will solve it to avoid getting into a crisis.
