Orlando Pirates striker Yanela Mbuthuma enjoyed a sensational competitive debut, bagging a brace after coming off the bench to help the Buccaneers secure a comfortable 4-0 CAF Champions League victory over Lioli.
The 23-year-old attacker, who was Richards Bay's top scorer last season, joined the Soweto giants at the start of the campaign amid fierce interest from various Betway Premiership clubs. On Saturday, he showed exactly why he was so highly sought after, netting his first two goals for his new club.
Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou lauded Mbuthuma's immediate impact and his composure in front of goal. Ouaddou believes the young striker will only grow better with more minutes under his belt, confidently stating that Mbuthuma is a “player for the future.”

‘OUR SCOUTS DID A GREAT JOB’
“Mbuthuma is one of the most talented players in South Africa. Our scouting department at the club did a great job of bringing him in, and now we are trying to turn him into a top top striker.”
Sipho Mbule also earned individual praise from coach Abdeslam Ouaddou after his influential display, commending the player’s versatility.
“What I like to see is Mbule smiling when he is playing. He is a fantastic player and one of the best players in this league. So when he is happy, I'm happy.”
Despite facing heavy criticism earlier this month, Orlando Pirates have now recorded eight straight wins. When asked about the remarkable turnaround, Ouaddou insisted he had not implemented any key tactical or structural adjustments to achieve their current run of dominant form.
“I did not change anything. I trust in the work that I am doing, and the love that I'm giving to my job, and my team.”
