What does Njabulo Blom transfer mean for Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana?

Kaizer Chiefs' newly re-signed midfielder, Njabulo Blom has, on multiple occasions, been excluded from the Bafana Bafana squad for various reasons. With his return to South Africa, does he have a chance of rejoining Hugo Broos' squad?

Chiefs unveiled the 24-year-old utility player on Tuesday along with Bradley who was signed from Golden Arrows.

DURATION FOR BLOM’S LOAN SPELL AT CHIEFS & WHEN CAN HE MAKE HIS SECOND DEBUT

He signed for Amakhosi on a one-year loan deal and the Soweto giants have an option to sign him permanently at the end of his loan spell in June 2025.

He can possibly make his second debut for the club on Saturday, 14 September in their Betway Premiership opener against Marumo Gallants.

The last time Blom was included in a Bafana Bafana squad was for the Africa Cup of Nations, but he ultimately did not make the final cut.

Broos attributed the difficulty in calling up USA-based players to the long travel times, which result in their late arrival at the camp.

This lack of adequate training time before matches has hindered the inclusion of players like Blom and Bongokuhle Hlongwane (Minnesota United).

WHY BLOM HAS MORE CHANCES TO GET BACK INTO THE BAFANA SQUAD?

Now that Blom is playing domestically, he may have a better chance of being selected for Broos' team. The Belgian tactician has shown a preference for relying on domestic players.

“The experience with the players who are coming from America is not so good,” said Broos.

“They arrive here and exhausted. They travel two days and never arrive…they can never arrive on time.

“That’s because they play, most of the time, on Sunday. And then they arrive on Tuesday exhausted after a long travel they (had) to do.

“Then we have to give them a (day off) on Wednesday because they have to recover.

“And then Friday you play the game. That’s a problem, that’s not a problem of the player, that’s not my problem, that’s a problem of America. It is so far away.

“And if (Bongokuhle) Hlongwane should be a standard player (in his club). Okay, then maybe you can think in another way.

“But he’s not even a standard player anymore, same thing for Blom, they don’t play, they are on the bench.”
