Manchester United legend and Plymouth Argyle manager Wayne Rooney has shared his thoughts on Orlando Pirates following the pre-season friendly match on Friday evening.

Plymouth and Pirates ended their match in a 2-2 draw at Banus Football Center in Marbella, Spain. This game marked the beginning of their pre-season tour in Spain.

The Pilgrims twice fought back from a goal down to earn a 2-2 draw. Olisa Ndah and Evidence Makgopa rattled the back of the net for the Buccaneers while Freddie Issaka and  Callum Wright scored for Rooney’s side.

Rooney, who seemed not surprised by the result, says they knew the Buccaneers are a good team. He admitted it was a difficult game for his troops.

However, he feels they had chances to win the game in the second half as his side kept on growing into the game.

WAYNE ROONEY’S REACTION TO PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY MATCH WITH ORLANDO PIRATES

“It was a very difficult game. I think Orlando Pirates are a very good team, we knew that,” Rooney said told Plymouth Argyle media department.

“The heat. It was hard enough standing there watching the game, so for the lads, it was very hot evening and they've put a lot work this week. We had two sessions yesterday.

“It was important that they got the minutes but also get some rhythm of the game.

“I thought we grew into the game in the second half and could've gone on to win the game in the end, but overall really pleased with the players.”

Ezimnyama Ngenkani gave minutes to one of their new signings. Newly-signed attacking midfielder Selaelo Rasebotja was on the starting line-up. Pirates secured his services on a free transfer after he left SuperSport United.

Meanwhile, Bayanda Zulu who signed from ABC Motsepe KZN club Midlands Wanderers and Dimpho Madalane from ABC Motsepe League Mpumalanga club Madubaduba FC were on the bench.
