Grading the best and worst jerseys for the new season

With the PSL season starting one months’ time, several teams have already unveiled their kits for 2024-25 alongside their new signings.

The big three of Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns are among those whose kits have hit the market already. Afrik-Foot grades the PSL kits released so far.

The Orlando Pirates jersey pays homage to one of the club’s founders James Sofasonke Mpanza, popularly known as “Father of Soweto”, who played a major part in the Sea Robber’s formation in 1937.

The home jersey features the legendary Orlando Pirates logo and a black, white, and red colour palette, presenting a sleek and forward-facing aesthetic.

In celebration of culture and community, the away jersey symbolises diversity through colour and introduces a seasonal green tone.

Kaizer Chiefs

The rich and classic tradition of Kaizer Chiefs is captured in the 2024-25 season’s new modern home kit with signature gold and black colours taking centre stage.

The kit features a gold shirt with a high crewneck and cuffs to match, while there is a single, thick black stripe extended from the left shoulder to the chest with the Kaizer Chiefs logo positioned across both colours. Black shorts and gold socks with a black band complete the new home kit.

CHIEFS-NGUO

The new away shirt is blue, and features the single, thick stripe in gold, extended from the left shoulder to the chest. This jersey is paired with white shorts, while the socks are blue with a yellow trim.

Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns and Puma also launched the Rise.Rule.Repeat. kits in their traditional yellow for home and blue for away with an African inspired pattern featuring graphics of crowns and stars.

According to the club, the design tells the club’s story from its establishment (the Rise), with the crowns representing consecutive PSL titles and overall dominance in South African football and the Stars representing the men’s and women’s teams’ success in the CAF Champions League (the Rule) and the unprecedented run of success which stands at 14 league titles and counting (the Repeat).

Cape Town City

The 2024-25 Umbro kit for Cape Town City is in tones of blue, with darker/navy shades on the stylised raglan sleeves, and boasts elaborate patterning and yellow trim.

The new Stellenbosch FC jersey designed by Le Coq Sportif stands out with its two gold stripes over the club badge with a dark maroon shedding on the left side of the top.
