The Premier Soccer League campaign is almost done, with Mamelodi Sundowns winning their eighth title in a row and 15th in general.

Arthur Sales, Iqraam Rayners, Teboho Mokoena, and Lucas Ribeiro are among the players who have done well for Masandawana. Relebohile Mofokeng, Sipho Chaine, and Makhehleni Makhaula. Keletso Makgalwa is also another player who has shone this season.

Stakeholders have had their say on who they feel should be considered for the Player of the Year Award, and as usual, they have their own preferences owing to their analysis and sometimes bias.

Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has revealed his Player of the Season. He believes Sundowns star  Lucas Ribeiro, who has scored 16 goals and provided nine assists in the Premier Soccer League, deserves it.

Why should Ribeiro win the POTY Award?

“You know, the good thing about Ribeiro is that he is making things look easy. And you can tell that his upbringing in terms of development stages they were very far in terms of 100% because his technique is unbelievable. Each and every goal he scores, he doesn’t struggle, he just plugs them in, even if he uses power, he picks a spot,” he told SABC Sport's SoccerZone.

“Then you come to how calm he is, because obviously sometimes football is a game of emotions. There are some incidents where they tackle him to get a reaction, only to find that he is so calm because he is focusing on his game.”

Ribeiro hopes to play a vital role to help his team win the Caf Champions League final against Pyramids.

The first leg will be played on Saturday at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium with the second one set for June 1 in Cairo.
