Kaizer Chiefs winger Mfundo Vilakazi delivered a standout performance to earn the Man of the Match award in South Africa’s emphatic 5–0 victory over New Caledonia at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
Vilakazi was at the heart of everything positive for Amajita, playing 73 minutes, registering two assists, taking six shots, and creating five chances.
His pass accuracy of 82% reflected his composure and vision in midfield, and he was substituted late in the second half for Chiefs’ new signing Luke Baartman, having already left his mark on the game.

South Africa Secure First Points in Style
The win marked South Africa’s first points of the tournament, and it came in dominant fashion. After a bright start from the OFC side, Siviwe Nkwali opened the scoring with a header from a corner midway through the first half. Moments later, Siviwe Magidigidi was brought down in the box, allowing Shakeel April to calmly convert the penalty.
Magidigidi then added a third with a powerful strike from just inside the area, sending Raymond Mdaka’s side into halftime with a commanding lead.
The second half saw Amajita continue their attacking momentum. Magidigidi netted his second of the match from close range, and Lazola Maku capped off the rout with a well-placed left-footed shot from the edge of the box.
Coach Mdaka: “We Should Have Scored More”
Despite the convincing scoreline, head coach Raymond Mdaka believes the team left goals on the table.
“It was quite a challenging game because we needed to win at all costs and we needed goals as well,” Mdaka said.
“We believe we should have scored more than we did as we were quite wasteful with the chances we created. We played well from the back but were sluggish in the front. We need to improve our tactical and positional discipline, I think we should have scored nine or ten goals.”
