SuperSport United will host Kaizer Chiefs in the Premier Soccer League outing to be played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
Barely a week ago, the two teams met in the Carling Knockout's Round of 16 where Amakhosi managed to register a 4-0 win and seal their place in the quarter-final. It was the first time since 2021 Chiefs have won against SuperSport away.
It got worse for SuperSport on Tuesday as they fell 2-0 in the league fixture against Orlando Pirates.
Chiefs can't beat SuperSport – Hlatshwayo
Veteran defender Thulani Hlatshwayo insists they have learned their lesson and the Sunday game will be different.
“We've seen how we conceded the goals and we've seen the chances we created with different personnel. I would not say revenge, but no team would like to lose twice to the same opponent in the space of a week,” the 34-year-old said ahead of the match.
“The lessons we took from that game had we taken our chances that we've created would have changed the complexity of the game. It changes everything and the transition because we are a team that will come to you.
“So for us, it is to make sure we don't repeat what happened. It is going to be an interesting game because first, we lost 4-0, but they know that had we taken the chances that we created it would have been a different game.”
SuperSport don't have depth
The Swanky Boys failed to get past the initial stage of the MTN8 and Carling Knockout competitions.
In the PSL, they have lost three games, won one, and drawn the other. Hlatshwayo has explained the struggles.
“Obviously with the results that we have had it has not been smooth sailing. Playing both big teams in a space of a week, okay sometimes as players we do want to play those matches and if we win those games it is a different situation.
“But with the squad that we have, we don't have that depth. We played Chiefs in the Carling. We know what happened there and this is the time when we need to be together as a team to make sure we move together.”
