Zimbabwe determined to hurt South Africa’s World Cup chances after naming strong squad for qualifier

Published on by

Zimbabwe are set to play South Africa in Group C's World Cup qualifier that will be staged at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The Warriors are already eliminated, having won no games so far in their pool, and they will be coming up against Hugo Broos' men who, recently, were docked three points for fielding suspended Teboho Mokoena against Lesotho back in March.

Benin top Group C with 14 points, the same as second-placed Bafana Bafana who have an inferior goal difference. Mzansi have to win against Zimbabwe and Rwanda respectively, and hope the Cheetahs drop points or fail to match them in goal difference for South Africa to qualify.

Who has made the Zimbabwe squad?

Surprisingly, the Warriors coach, Michael Nees has named a very strong squad to play their neighbours on Friday, October 10.

Among those in the preliminary squad is a former Kaizer Chiefs duo, Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat. Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Marshall Munetsi has also been included, alongside ex-Orlando Pirates striker Terrence Dzvukamanja and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Davine Lunga.

In the ongoing campaign, Zimbabwe have managed four draws and as many losses, placing them at the bottom of the table withh just four points.
