Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu could be about to join Rulani Mokwena at Wydad Athletics Club following reports that he is in Morocco.
Zungu is reported to be in Morocco where he will train with Wydad players to ascertain his level of fitness and if he is found to be in good shape, he will be offered a deal by the North African side.
It is a major U-turn for the 31-year-old who had seen talks with Wydad collapse over what was reported as high demands from the midfielder and it appears a reunion with his former coach is now on the cards.
Mokwena has not hidden his interest in Zungu
Mokwena has spoken highly of his former protégé and confirmed that talks were ongoing in July before the interest from Wydad cooled.
“I can only talk about Zungu, with Zungu we are talking, he has got interest from elsewhere but Zungu is very special. I have known Bongani Zungu for a very long time and he is a very, very good player and he still got a lot to offer and he is a good person too,” Mokwena told Marawa Sports Worldwide.
“That's very important for me in working to align and I said that even yesterday to the players – the most important thing for me is to work with good people and that's very, very important. And Bongs (Zungu) is a very good person, good heart, well raised. Incredible family, incredible mother, incredible siblings.

Will the midfielder seal a move to Wydad?
“So, he is someone I have a lot of respect for and someone I would love to have here but let's see whether it's possible because sometimes it's got a lot more to do with many other things than just football. So, we are still talking and hopefully something comes up.”
Zungu played at Sundowns for two years before he left at the end of last season, having made 30 appearances in 2023-24.
