Zungu points out similarities between Sundowns & AmaZulu

Newly signed AmaZulu FC midfielder Bongani Zungu has drawn parallels between his former club, Mamelodi Sundowns, and his current team, Usuthu.

The midfielder, affectionately known as “Ben 10,” joined AmaZulu as a free agent after parting ways with Sundowns at the end of last season. After a six-month spell without a club, Zungu was close to joining Wydad Casablanca but ultimately missed out due to fitness concerns.

Zungu expressed admiration for AmaZulu's “modern football” under the guidance of coaches Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi, noting similarities to the playing style he experienced at Sundowns.

Coincidentally, Zungu's first match for AmaZulu will be against his former club, Sundowns, although he is unlikely to feature. The two sides clash on Tuesday, 24 December at Moses Mabhida Stadium at 3 PM.

Zungu acknowledged that the match will be an “emotional game” for him.

ZUNGU SAYS BOTH SUNDOWNS AND AMAZULU PLAY ‘MODERN FOOTBALL’

“I know sundowns very well. I've got a lot of friends there. It's a club that I've played for many years. Obviously, the team has been doing well,” said Zungu.

“Before I even signed here, I watched a lot of games. What the guys are doing and the football they're playing. I feel like it's going to be a very fascinating game.

“From my own perspective, both teams have similarities. They play what you call modern football. It's going to be a nice game.

“Obviously, we have to apply ourselves. We have to want it more. If you want it more and you're more hungry on the day, you can match AmaZulu.

“I think it's going to be a very good game. It's an emotional game for me. But as I just mentioned, I trust the team and the coaches.

“The way the team has been playing, everyone is calm. It's a game that I feel is going to be a good watch for everyone. You know where AmaZulu are right now.”
