Adams: Sevilla finally reveal why they turned to struggling Ligue 1 striker

Sevilla Sporting Director Víctor Orta is optimistic that, in Akor Adams, the club has secured a striker capable of bolstering their La Liga campaign.

The Spanish club turned to the former Nigeria U-20 forward, signing him from French side Montpellier during the winter transfer window to strengthen their attack.

The 24-year-old made an impressive start at Montpellier, but a combination of injuries and a dip in form left him struggling for goals.

Despite enduring a four-month goal drought in Ligue 1, Sevilla moved decisively to secure his services in a €5.5 million deal.

Orta believes in Adams to help Sevilla in La Liga

Orta revealed that Sevilla had been tracking Adams for a while and acted swiftly when the opportunity to sign him arose.

“He (Akor) is a player we have been following for a long time. In his time in Norway and beginnings in Montpellier, where he had excellent numbers,” Orta explained.

“Then, due to the circumstances of the team, he did not maintain that level.

“But when we saw that he was available in the market, we did not hesitate to hire him because he can give us physicality, speed, back-to-goal play, and aggressiveness.”

Orta emphasized Adams’ physical attributes and his experience in Ligue 1 as key reasons behind the decision to bring him to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.

“He is a fairly complete striker who has already gone through a powerful league like the French one, with a lot of marking and aggressiveness,” Orta stated.

“Here, he can add and contribute with all those virtues.”

Sevilla, who have scored just 24 goals in 21 matches this season, are currently 12th in the 20-team La Liga table.
