Ademola Lookman injury update: Super Eagles star status leaked ahead of Arsenal clash

Published on by

Super Eagles attacker Ademola Lookman will be fit and ready to play for Atletico Madrid when they face Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, Afrik-Foot reports.

Lookman’s fitness has been a source of serious concern, as he has been sidelined for nearly two weeks.

He seemed to have sustained an injury during Los Rojiblancos’ Copa del Rey final against Real Sociedad two weeks ago. But the prognosis was better than expected, as it was confirmed that it was only minor discomfort.

However, the club noted that the Super Eagles star would have to train with a personal routine, away from the rest of his teammates, to prevent a serious setback.

That ensured that Lookman missed Los Rojiblancos’ last two games against Elche and Athletic Bilbao.

Consequently, there have been doubts about the 28-year-old’s availability for Atletico Madrid’s Champions League semifinal game against Arsenal on Wednesday.

But those fears have now been allayed, as fresh proof has emerged that the Nigerian international will be available to do battle for his side.

Ademola Lookman Back For Arsenal Clash

On Monday afternoon, videos of Ademola Lookman training with the rest of the Atletico Madrid squad emerged, as confirmed by Marca.

The fact that he is training with the rest of his teammates means that Lookman will be fit in time to play Arsenal.

This is a big attacking boost for coach Diego Simeone, as the Nigerian international has contributed seven goals and four assists in 18 appearances since arriving at the club from Atalanta in the January transfer window.

Arsenal and Atletico Madrid met in the group phase of the Champions League, and the latter suffered a ruthless 4-0 defeat at the Emirates.

However, going into this fixture, coach Simeone and his boys will be hopeful, as Arsenal have looked shaky since the turn of the year.

Moreover, they now have Lookman back, who can provide significant output in the final third.

The first leg of the game will be played on April 29 at the Estadio Metropolitano. Then, the second leg of the tie will be played on May 5 at the Emirates Stadium.
