The broadcast of the AFCON 2023 has a new turn as African broadcast giant SuperSport has made a turnaround and will now broadcast the matches.

Last week, the broadcaster revealed that they were unable to beam the games as they could not get the rights to the tournament but left space for last minute discussions which has apparently bore fruits.

As announced on Wednesday, SuperSport will now show all 52 matches of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Ivory Coast 2023 (Afcon) live.

MultiChoice got the rights to broadcast the tournament after they reached an agreement with New World TV (NWTV), the owners of the rights, to bring the 34th edition of this major African men’s football event to the screens.

SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha, said: “We are delighted to be able to showcase the best of African football live to our viewers.”

Managing Director of NWTV Nimonka Kolani, declared that: “By securing the rights to AFCON 2023 under the leadership of Dr Patrice Motsepe, SuperSport and NWTV prove that nothing is more important than the happiness of Africans who wish to follow the exploits of their favourite team during the biggest football competition in Africa.”

The decision not to show the matches had not gone down well with fans across the sub-Saharan parts of Africa as it drew criticism from far and wide but with the latest turn of events, fans will be pleased they can now watch their favourite teams.

AFCON 2023 starts on 13 January through to 11 February with the first game of the tournament between hosts Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau on Saturday.
