AFCON 2023: CAF reveal interesting ticket sales stats

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has shed light on ticket sales ahead of next month’s African Cup of Nations. The highly anticipated tournament is set to be hosted by Ivory Coast from January 13th to February 4th across five cities, and if the ticket purchases are anything to go by, it is generating a lot of interest.

Among the disclosed figures, the host nation led the pack in ticket purchases with 32,307 tickets bought. Guinea-Bissau is a surprise second, following closely with 28,614 ticket sales.


Equatorial Guinea, in Group A alongside hosts Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and Guinea-Bissau, is third with 16,237 ticket sales. Nigeria and Senegal round off the top five with 12,544 and 10,959 tickets, respectively.

Fans have also taken an interest in securing tickets for particular matches. The curtain-raiser between Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau leads the way. In the second spot, the much-anticipated encounter between the hosts and the Super Eagles ties with the Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau fixtures.

Equatorial Guinea and Ivory Coast and Mozambique versus Ghana share the third spot, while Senegal versus Cameroon and Guinea against Gambia are fourth in the number of tickets sold. Egypt versus Ghana rounds things up in fifth place.

The ticket sales portal on the CAF website remains open as fans jostle to watch their favorite teams play live in six stadiums across five Ivory Coast cities.

With just under three weeks before kick-off, anticipation continues to build for an exciting showcase of African football talent and spirited competition across the continent.
