Akor Adams: 2 secrets behind Venezia’s shock win over Napoli

Published on by

Akor Adams has revealed the two key factors he believes powered Venezia to a surprise 1-0 victory over Napoli in Serie A on Saturday.

The Nigerian striker scored the decisive goal as Venezia ended a run of six consecutive defeats to claim their first points of the season.

The victory came at a crucial moment for the club, which dismissed head coach Giovanni Stroppa earlier in the week and appointed Davide Nicola as his replacement.

Adams made an immediate impact under the new manager, finding the net to give Venezia a much-needed victory after a difficult start to their campaign.

The former Sevilla striker, who joined Venezia in the summer, has now scored twice in Serie A since his arrival.

Speaking after the match, Adams identified the support of the Venezia fans and Nicola’s direct approach to coaching as important factors behind the result.

Akor Adams reveals how Venezia fans and Nicola inspired Napoli win

Akor Adams believes the backing of the Venezia supporters played a significant role in helping the team recover from their difficult run of results.

The striker received applause from the fans after the match and stressed that their support was just as important during the club’s struggles as it was after a victory.

“The fans are very important to us, not only when we win games, but also when we don’t,” Akor Adams said as per TVS.

“Today the three points were important, and the fans have also suffered in recent weeks. We need their energy, and the coach has tried to draw out the fans’ energy to then give it to us. We need their support both at home and away, in every game. For them, we will fight 100% in every game.”

The victory offered Venezia a timely boost after six straight defeats had left them without a point in the league.

Adams also praised Nicola for making his expectations clear despite having only three days to prepare the team for the Napoli encounter.

“He’s a coach who speaks directly, and in recent days, he’s asked us to work on our intensity. We had little time to prepare for the match—only three days—but he’s a clear coach in his instructions and has had us work on teamwork, defense, and transitions to get to the attacking stage.”

The Super Eagles striker also discussed his development in Italy and responded to praise from Nicola, who had spoken about his considerable potential.

Adams said he appreciates the manager’s assessment but insisted that he was focused on learning, improving and contributing to Venezia’s collective objectives.

“I thank the coach for his kind words about me. I don’t set limits on how far I can go, but I know I can learn a lot this year, and I have to. The coach also came here to help me and my teammates, and whatever he wants from me, both defensively and physically, I’ll try to give him.

“As for the rest, I don’t set any limits on myself, especially because I’m here at Venezia because there’s a project that helps me not only individually, but also with the team and our goals.”

Venezia are scheduled to face Genoa on Sunday before taking on Inter Milan the following Wednesday.
