Super Eagles striker Akor Adams scored the winning goal for Sevilla in their remarkable 3-2 comeback victory over Villarreal at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Wednesday.
Los Nervionenses fell two goals behind after just 20 minutes, but they managed to rally and pull level before the break. Then, in the 72nd minute, Adams struck a fierce shot from inside the area to ensure the match ended 3-2.
The victory is significant for both Adams and Sevilla. The Nervionenses now have a cushion in their battle for survival in La Liga, while Adams reached 10 goals—a significant milestone. This is the first time he has reached double figures in a top five European league.
This is no mean feat, as he is just the fourth Nigerian to score 10 or more goals in a single La Liga campaign.
In this article, Afrik-Foot names the three other Nigerians who have scored 10 or more goals in a single La Liga season.
1. Christopher Ohen
Former Super Eagles striker Christopher Ohen is not exactly a household name in Nigerian football, but he was prolific in Spain, scoring goals with reckless abandon.
Ohen scored 14 goals in 31 appearances for SD Compostela in the 1994/95 campaign. He followed that up with 11 goals in 34 games the following year, then scored 17 goals in 33 appearances during the 1996/97 season.
His goals were key to keeping Compostela afloat in La Liga during his time there.
The 55-year-old did not feature heavily for Nigeria, however, appearing in just three games for the senior national team.
2. Ikechukwu Uche

Retired Super Eagles striker Ikechukwu Uche is another forward who made his mark in Spain. He spent most of his career there and enjoyed several impressive campaigns.
His best season in La Liga was 2013/14, when he registered 14 goals in 30 appearances for Villarreal.
That was the only season he reached double figures in the Spanish top flight. He also holds a brilliant record in the second tier, contributing 78 goals and eight assists in 237 appearances.
3. Finidi George
The former Super Eagles coach is one of the greatest football talents Nigeria has ever produced.

The former winger “pulled up trees” in La Liga and was a key member of the Real Betis team in the late 90s. Finidi scored 10+ goals in two different seasons. The first was in the 1996/97 campaign, when he registered 10 goals in 36 appearances.
Then, in the 1998/99 season, he contributed 11 goals and three assists in 36 games.
Finidi earned 62 caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria and scored eight international goals.
