Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder Alex Chuka Iwobi has weighed in on his side’s chances of qualifying for a European competition next season, Afrik Foot reports.

The 29-year-old played 86 minutes at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland, although in a deeper role alongside Sander Berge.

Iwobi turned up with a great performance, setting up Raul Jimenez’s opener before scoring Fulham’s third goal.

The three points takes Fulham into the top half of the table, a testament to the steady progress they’ve made having spent the first half of the season languishing in the bottom five of the English top-flight.

Iwobi eyeing European football with Fulham

Speaking after the game, the former Arsenal midfielder admitted they knew Sunderland were a strong side, but he’s delighted with Fulham’s win.

“We knew it was going to be difficult; the pitch wasn’t great. We know that if we wanted to climb up the table, we had to get these points away from home.

“They have been very good at home, and it’s good to get the result we wanted,” Iwobi said in quotes revealed by Fulham correspondent Jack Kelly.

About European football, the AFCON 2023 silver medallist revealed the only way to achieve the dream is by winning each game as it comes.

“We take it step by step. Onto the next game, we got the three points, which was the aim, to climb above them.

“We take it game by game – that cliche saying and see where we end up at the end of the season,” the one-time FA Cup winner concluded.
