The Nigerian football community was plunged into grief on Saturday following the heartbreaking news of the demise of former Super Falcons goalkeeper Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni.
Aluko had been valiantly battling cancer for about eight years, but unfortunately, she couldn't overcome the illness and passed away.
Her struggle with cancer began in 2019 when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer.
Despite undergoing treatment and a mastectomy, she faced a setback when the cancer returned two years later, necessitating further treatment.
Although the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) intervened by providing some financial assistance for her treatment, it proved insufficient to cover all her medical expenses.
Both Aluko and her husband had to exhaust their resources to supplement the treatment costs, but eventually, they ran out of funds.

In a brief statement released by the NFF, they expressed their sorrow over her passing and paid tribute to the late goalkeeper.
The NFF announced her death via their official social media account, offering condolences to her family and acknowledging her courageous battle against cancer.
“We are saddened to hear of the passing of former @NGSuper_Falcons goalkeeper, Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni, after an eight-year battle with cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. May her gentle soul rest in peace,” the NFF stated.
Aluko-Olaseni had previously played for several clubs, including Rivers Angels, Ekiti Babes, and Sunshine Queens, leaving a lasting impact on the Nigerian football landscape.
Her legacy will be remembered fondly by fans and fellow players alike.
