AFCON fixtures today: Is there a match? Next AFCON games, kick-off times & results

AFCON fixtures can only take place once every two years, so most days of the year there is no AFCON fixture being played.

The last tournament, AFCON 2025, was hosted by Morocco and finished in January 2026, and the next edition, AFCON 2027, will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 19 June to 17 July 2027.

That does not mean African football goes quiet in between. The qualifiers for AFCON 2027 are already under way, with 48 CAF member nations drawn into 12 groups of four battling for a place at the finals across three international windows between September 2026 and March 2027.

When are the next AFCON games?

The AFCON 2027 qualifiers run across three windows, with each national team playing six matches total — three home, three away — against the other three teams in its group:

Qualification format: Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda have already secured their AFCON 2027 places as co-hosts.

In the nine groups that don’t contain a co-host, the top two finishers qualify directly (18 spots). In the three groups that do contain a co-host—Nigeria’s Group L (Tanzania), South Africa’s Group E (Kenya), and Uganda’s own host group—only the highest-placed non-host nation qualifies (3 further spots). That’s 21 qualifiers joining the three hosts for a 24-team finals.

When is Super Eagles’ next AFCON match?

Super Eagles’ next AFCON 2027 qualifier falls in CAF’s Matchday 3 & 4 window, 9–17 November 2026, when Eric Chelle’s side face Tanzania in a home-and-away double-header. Exact dates and venues will be confirmed by CAF closer to the window.

The November window matters more than usual after Nigeria’s last qualifier loss to Guinea-Bissau, which was won 3-0 in Bissau on 29 September, with Franculino Djú among the scorers, dropping the Super Eagles to second in Group L. Standings after Matchday 2. Tanzania’s finals place is secured as co-host regardless of its group position, so in practical terms only one other spot is really up for grabs from Group L—which is what makes Nigeria’s defeat in Bissau more costly than the table alone suggests.

AFCON 2025: How the tournament actually finished

The most recently completed AFCON was hosted by Morocco, running December 2025–January 2026.

Senegal actually won the final on the pitch, 1-0 after extra time, on 18 January 2026. CAF’s Appeal Board took the title away from them two months later, ruling that a stoppage-time walkoff protest during the final meant the match should be forfeited 3-0 to Morocco instead.

Senegal has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which remains open; Morocco is the officially recognised champion pending that outcome.
