Another former Super Eagles star heading to the NPFL

Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi's returns to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) seem to have struck a chord with other former Super Eagles players.

Both Musa and Abdullahi have already made appearances for Kano Pillars, with Musa off to a flying start, scoring three goals and providing one assist in just three matches.

Musa’s performance has been particularly impressive, especially during Kano Pillars' thrilling 4-3 away victory over Rangers in midweek.

The Super Eagles star inspired his team to a famous win, scoring a brilliant solo goal and setting up Rabiu Mohammed for another.

Following in Musa’s footsteps, Rio 2016 Olympics bronze medallist Ndifreke Effiong has joined Rivers United.

The former Akwa United captain has already made his debut for the Port Harcourt side and will be eager to make his mark at his new club.

Adding further strength to Rivers United, another former Super Eagles star is set to join Effiong.

Home-coming for former Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye

Brown Ideye, a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner under the late Stephen Keshi, has expressed his intent to return to the NPFL.

Ideye is currently training with Rivers United and is expected to officially join when the transfer window opens in two weeks.

Rivers United coach, Finidi George, confirmed Ideye’s involvement, stating, “There is every likelihood that he'll join us. He wants to give back; that's the most important thing.”

“He has that hunger; we've seen Ahmed Musa, and if he's willing to do that, I think we'll welcome him.” Finidi added.

Speaking to Afrik-Foot, Ideye confirmed his intent to play in the NPFL, stating, “Yes, I want to play in the Nigerian league before I end it all. It has always been my desire to play in the league before I quit.”

“I'm speaking with a few clubs, and hopefully, by the time registration opens for Matchday 9, I'll sign a deal.”

The return of high-profile players like Musa, Abdullahi and Effiong with the anticipated arrival of Ideye could signal a trend that may see more former Super Eagles stars rejoining the NPFL.

Meanwhile, a club in South-West Nigeria is reportedly sending a proposal to bring former Super Eagles midfielder John Ogu back to the NPFL.

The club is hopeful of securing Ogu’s signature once terms are agreed.
