One-cap Super Eagles forward Anthony Nwakaeme marked his return to Turkey in style, providing a crucial assist as Trabzonspor came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Kayserispor at home.

Nwakaeme, who rejoined his former club after a stint in Saudi Arabia with Al-Fayha, showed why he remains a cult hero at Trabzonspor, where he delivered standout performances between 2018 and 2022.

The match started disastrously for Trabzonspor, with Kayserispor's Hasan Ali Kaldırım netting the opener in the 12th minute, shortly after Ghanaian defender Joseph Attamah missed a penalty for the visitors.

The situation worsened for Trabzonspor in the 63rd minute when Aylton Boa Morte doubled Kayserispor’s lead, leaving the home side with a mountain to climb.

However, Trabzonspor fought back, and with just a minute left of regular time, Umut Bozok scored to bring hope to the Trabzonspor faithful.

Anthony Nwakaeme, who had entered the fray as a substitute for Enis Bardhi at halftime, made a crucial impact in the final moments.

The 35-year-old Nigeria forward, who has one cap for the Super Eagles, provided a perfectly timed assist for Stefano Denswil, who equalized for Trabzonspor with virtually the last kick of the game. This marked Nwakaeme’s first goal contribution of the season.

Despite playing only 45 minutes, Nwakaeme made his presence felt, recording 43 touches, one shot on goal, and four key passes.

He completed 22 of his 28 passes, a success rate of 79%, and created one big chance for his team.

His defensive efforts were also notable, as he made two interceptions and won five of his seven ground duels, along with his only aerial duel.
