Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv have announced the inward transfer of veteran Nigerian striker Anthony Ujah on a two-year deal.
The 33-year-old joins the oldest Bulgarian club on a free transfer after the expiration of his contract with German Bundesliga 2 side Eintracht Braunschweig.
Botev Plovdiv coach Arthur Platek said the club are excited to have Ujah join them and hopes the striker can bring his experience to bear and help the team win laurels.
Anthony Ujah transfer banks on experience
“We are confident that Anthony (Ujah) will help us with his goals and perform at a top level. We also know that his experience will be invaluable to us,” the manager said.
“He brings with him a wealth of experience from the top levels of German football, boasting matches in both the Bundesliga and Second Bundesliga on his calling card.
“His proven footballing qualities and ability to score will certainly help us to improve.
“Together with Ivelin Popov, he will guide the young players and share his knowledge so that they can better understand what is wanted in the best championships in Europe,” he added.
Botev Plovdiv finished last season in fourth place in the Efbet Liga with 44 points from 30 games. They will play in the UEFA Europa League this season via the qualifying rounds.
Ujah spent two seasons with Eintracht Braunschweig before making the move to Bulgaria. This past season, the former U23 striker played 23 times for the Bundesliga 2 side, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
Apart from Braunschweig, Ujah has featured for four other German clubs, namely Mainz 05, Werder Bremen, FC Köln, and Union Berlin.
He has also played in China with Liaoning Whowin, as well as Norwegian side Lillestrøm, which was his first club abroad, moving there from Nigerian club-side Warri Wolves in the 2008/09 season.
The striker was part of the Super Eagles squad at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.
