Bohemian FC forward Simone Adebowale Reilly is enthusiastic about representing Nigeria at the 2024 U-20 Women's World Cup.

The young striker is among twelve forwards invited by Falconets coach Chris Musa Danjuma to the provisional squad for the upcoming U-20 Women’s World Cup.

As Reilly prepares for the youth tournament in Colombia, she has reflected on her journey and the immense pride she feels at the prospect of wearing the green and white jersey.

“I am extremely delighted with my experience in the Falconets setup,” Reilly said. “It has always been my dream to play for Nigeria. Despite being eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland, Nigeria has always been my first choice.

“I am working very hard to convince my coaches, and my goal is to make the final squad for the World Cup in Colombia.”

Born to an Irish father and a Nigerian mother, Simone Reilly is eager to make a significant impact on the Nigerian team if selected for the final squad.

At just 16, Reilly's decision to choose Nigeria over Ireland highlights both her deep connection to her heritage and the rising influence of Nigerian football on the global stage.

Her burgeoning talent has already caught the eye of top English clubs, with Arsenal and West Ham closely tracking her progress.

Nigeria at the U-20 Women’s World Cup

Chris Danjuma’s girls have been handed a stern examination in the group stage of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The Falconets will lock horns with three-time champions Germany, Korea Republic, and Venezuela in Group D.

The tournament kicks off on August 31st and runs until September 22nd across three Colombian cities.

Nigeria are no strangers to the global stage, having qualified for every edition of the competition. They’ve also tasted World Cup final heartbreak twice, both times at the hands of Germany in 2010 and 2014.

It was at that 2014 tournament where a certain Asisat Oshoala announced herself to the world, scooping the Golden Ball and Golden Boot awards.
