Ademola Lookman’s Atletico Madrid will play against Getafe at the Metropolitano on Saturday afternoon, looking to make it four consecutive La Liga wins, Afrik Foot reports.
The Super Eagles attacker will be central to Atletico’s attacking ambitions once again, having been one of the standout performers for the Red and Whites this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists in 11 games since joining from Atalanta in the winter transfer window.
Coming off the back of a resounding 5-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League, Diego Simeone’s men will be looking to close in on Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table.
Match Preview: Atletico Madrid vs Getafe
Atletico’s victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday night put one foot firmly in the quarterfinals ahead of the second leg in London next week.
Los Rojiblancos are also still in the Copa del Rey, set to take on Real Sociedad in the final, keeping two trophies very much within reach this term.
In La Liga, Lookman’s side sit third in the table, level on points with fourth-placed Villarreal, though a title challenge remains mathematically possible, it is highly unlikely that a title triumph will surface, as they’re currently 13 points behind leaders Barcelona.
What is of utmost importance is their battle to secure Champions League football for next season, and they have built a comfortable cushion of 11 points over fifth-placed Real Betis.
Their home form has been a significant strength this season. Atletico boast the second-best home record in La Liga, picking up 37 points from 14 league matches at the Metropolitano. Only Barcelona have won more games on home ground than Diego Simeone’s side.

Getafe cannot be underestimated as they’ve been in excellent form. Jose Bordalas’ side have won four of their last five La Liga matches, including back-to-back victories over Real Madrid and Real Betis, and have lost just one of their last seven league fixtures, a surprise home defeat to Sevilla.
That run has lifted them to ninth in the table with 35 points, leaving them just five points behind sixth-placed Celta Vigo in the race for European qualification.
That said, history is firmly against the visitors in this fixture. Getafe have won just five of their previous 46 matches against Atletico across all competitions, and suffered a 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture earlier this season, and have not claimed an away victory against their capital rivals since May 2010.

Team Form
Atletico Madrid’s La Liga form has been strong in recent weeks, winning three of their last six matches in the league, including victories over Espanyol, Real Oviedo and Real Sociedad.
Across all competitions, Simeone’s side have been even better, winning four of their last six games, including the thumping win over Spurs.
Getafe’s La Liga form has been equally eye-catching. El Geta have won four of their last six matches in the division. Their overall confidence is high heading into the weekend.

Star Player: Ademola Lookman
Nigerians will tune in to watch the 2024 CAF Player of the Year. His move to Atletico Madrid has given him an even bigger stage to showcase his talents, and the home performance against Barca in the Copa del Rey might even prove bigger if they win the title on the 18th of April.
Lookman’s ability to drive at defenders, cut inside onto his stronger foot and deliver in the final third makes him a nightmare to contain for any full-back in world football.
His directness and unpredictability give Atletico an attacking dimension that few sides in La Liga can replicate, and with Simeone likely to rotate his squad this weekend ahead of an away trip to London next week, the Nigerian international has a golden opportunity to take centre stage if he’s included in the starting XI.

Antoine Griezmann and Julian Alvarez are all players who could make a difference for Atletico as well, but Simeone’s unpredictability makes it hard to pinpoint who would stand out on Saturday.
Team News
Atletico Madrid will be without midfielder Pablo Barrios, who was ruled out for the second time in two months. The youngster came on in the final 21 minutes of Atleti’s win against Spurs, before suffering an injury in training yesterday.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Barrios suffered a minor hamstring tear and is expected to be out of action for around a month. Rodrigo Mendoza is also sidelined due to a muscular problem.
As for Getafe, Adu Kamara is ruled out of the clash through a foot injury, while Juanmi, Borja Mayoral and Davinchi will face late fitness tests ahead of Saturday’s match.
Adrian Liso returns to availability after serving a suspension, and on-loan Lyon attacker Martin Satriano, who has found the back of the net thrice in his last four appearances, is set to lead the line once again for Bordalas’ side.
Probable Line-up
Atlético Madrid: Jan Oblak; Nahuel Molina, José María Giménez, Clément Lenglet, David Hancko; Johnny Cardoso, Koke, Giuliano Simeone, Thiago Almada; Ademola Lookman, Alexander Sørloth.
Getafe: David Soria; Djene, Abdelkabir Aqbar, Domingos Duarte, Zaid Abner Romero, Juan Iglesias; Kiko, Luis Milla, Mauro Arambarri, Martin Satriano; Luis Vázquez.
Tactical Preview
Atletico will look to control proceedings at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, using their well-organised defensive structure as a base before transitioning quickly into attack.
With Simeone likely rotating his front line, the burden of creativity may fall on Lookman to provide the spark.

Getafe, true to Bordalas’ philosophy, will be compact, physical and disciplined out of possession. The Deep Blues will look to frustrate Atletico by sitting deep and hitting them on the counter, using Satriano’s recent sharp form to exploit any spaces left behind by the hosts’ fullbacks.
Their tactical discipline has been the foundation of their impressive recent run, and they will not make life easy for the 2014 La Liga winners.
Prediction
Getafe have been in outstanding form and came very close to earning a draw here on paper, but home advantage and Atletico’s superior quality, even with rotation, should just about see Simeone’s side over the line, but narrowly.

Betting Tips
Atletico’s home record this season — 37 points from 14 league matches makes them a strong favourite here, and backing them to win at the Metropolitano carries solid value. With rotation expected, however, this game could be more open than usual, making both teams score another attractive option given Getafe’s impressive attacking form of late.
Satriano, with three goals in his last four appearances, looks a strong pick for anytime scorer on the Getafe side, while Lookman’s involvement in Atletico’s attacking play makes him worth backing to register either a goal or an assist.
